What is Smooga?
What is a Smooga you ask, well it’s me, I am Smooga (aka Christina).I grew up Florida in a Military family. After I graduated from University of Florida in 2009, I landed in Arizona. I am a Mechanical Engineer by degree, but spent most of my career in Project Management. I love being in the field working with technicians and solving problems. I am married and have a sassy/spunky daughter who keeps me on my toes!
About Me
Prior to getting into plants, I was an avid World of Warcraft player. Smooga was a random silly name I thought of in 2009 for one of my characters and it stuck!
Where did the name Smooga come from?
I started my plant journey in December of 2023 with a single Monstera from a local nursey. At the time i had NO idea what i was doing, but decided to jump in feet first and learn as much as I can. My collection grew exponentially in 2024 with Alocasia, Philodendrons and Monsteras mostly. It took some time to learn how to grow Aroids in the low Arizona humidity.
I finally got my first Anthurium in October of 2024. I didn’t understand the beauty and diversity of them until that point. I started growing my Anthurium collection throughout 2025 focusing on learning proper care, learning what I liked and planning for the future. I am very grateful for all the guidance and tips from my friends (looking at you Tony) and other breeders.
